The Customer Is Always Right

Since founding Amazon in 1994, he has revolutionized retailing. Now he’s out to transform how we read.

“work backwards from the customer ….”
Too few companies do this! I just had an “encounter” with Comcast. Too bad they didn’t read (and heed) this statement.
“If you start thinking about a medical textbook or something, then, yes, I think that’s ripe for reinvention. You can imagine animations of a beating heart.”
Think about all the words that you use to describe strategy. What if they were animated? How could you use technology to change the way you communicate?

“Do you think that the ink-on-paper book will eventually go away? I do. “
Nothing lasts forever (but some things last for a very long time.) What will “go away” in your business?
Sorry for the rambling thoughts, but this article just struck a very positive chord with me.
Merry Christmas!

I don’t know about ink on paper, but I do know that Amazon got about 75% of my shopping dollars this year – free shipping, aggressive pricing, no sales tax – and never having to set foot in a mall. I may be late to the online shopping revolution, but now I’m all in.

Fred, I agree completely. Bezo is interesting to watch and I’m more impressed than ever with the Amazon model. Happy New Year!

Bill as a nice followup to your article on the future, jobs or lack thereof and the direction of the United States and the world, here is an interesting article.

As America transitions from a manufacturing economy to a white collar society what will the transition look like? How painful will it be? Who will be hurt the most, the young or the old? What should we be doing now to stay on top?

I picked this up from my brother-in-law, who had this to say, “In large part, I concur with his data and agree with his conclusions. I think that the trends are undeniable and, though painful in the short term, desirable in the long run. ”
