Managers must operate in an ongoing cycle of sensing changes and responding to them. We call this cycle the Sense-Response Cycle. Using this cycle as our foundation we give managers the tools they need to adapt more quickly and effectively to the changes around them.

Our practice is built on four realities.

  • Every day the current business climate requires all of us to anticipate opportunities and problems. Therefore, we must all be on the alert for how our reality is changing.
  • The accelerating pace of change requires us to be ready to adapt continually. Therefore, strategic thinking throughout the organization is essential. It is not the sole responsibility of the executive team.
  • Optimal strategy is fiction. Robust strategy is the best we can do. Therefore, we need to consider a significant range of plausible business scenarios.
  • Moving beyond your job description to take advantage of opportunities is the essence of leadership – no matter where you are in the official hierarchy. Thus, we have to help everyone understand and deal with risk.

Phase 1: Discovery
We meet or conduct telephone interviews with select company individuals to better understand the current and emerging issues facing the company and its industry. The intent of this phase is to make sure the examples, concepts and exercises we use in presentation, workshops and facilitation are meaningful to the participants’ real world.

Phase 2: Tailoring and Delivery
We tailor presentations and workshops to make them relevant to the participants. This includes use of company- or industry-specific vocabulary and concepts as well as the customization of the workshop exercises to make sure they address real issues. Time spent with us is not “time away from the job,” it is time spent preparing their minds.

Phase 3: Follow-Up
We work with clients and their teams to prepare individual and team action plans. If asked, we help monitor progress, offering suggestions from an outsider’s point of view and providing recommendations to turn strategic thinking into strategic behavior.
